Catholic Media Makes a Splash at 2018 Vilnius Book Fair
For a second year, the Church Chronicle Foundation organized and sponsored a joint stand for Catholic publishers and media organizations at the Vilnius Book Fair on 22-25 February 2018. This major annual event for the Lithuanian publishing industry attracts tens of thousands of visitors.
The strengthened Catholic presence at this year’s fair represents the first fruits of an important new project for the expansion of the Catholic media in Lithuania which the foundation is carrying out with financial support from Renovabis, a charitable organization of the Catholic Church in Germany.
Christian publishers are increasingly visible at the Vilnius Book Fair. A large group of them were brought together again this year by the Church Chronicle Foundation, encouraged by the success of a similar initiative last year. The foundation’s Lithuanian website offers photographic reports of each day of the fair, in which its stand can be seen under a unifying banner with the slogan ‘Truth that Sets You Free’.
The foundation this year brought together 13 Catholic media organisations and offered visitors to the book fair a total of 18 different events, including book presentations and meetings with authors [which were very well attended, often standing room only].
In an interview with the Bernardinai.lt news portal, the foundation’s director Vaida Spangelevičiūtė Kneižienė, recalled examples of how people’s stereotypes were broken and they were positively surprised on encountering the diversity of the Catholic media.
