Historic Catholic Media Gathering in Birštonas
Editors and managers from nearly all of Lithuania’s Catholic media organizations gathered in the town of Birštonas on 7-8 May 2015 to get better acquainted and discuss forms of increased collaboration.
Organized by the Church Chronicle Foundation, it was the first such gathering in more than 20 years. Members of the Commission for Social Communication of the Lithuanian Bishops Conference joined the discussions, presenting the hierarchy’s views and hopes for the Catholic media. And a member of the international Catholic organization Knights of Columbus also took part as an observer.
Participants unanimously agreed on the need to regularly hold such exchanges, to organize professional seminars on matters related to journalism skills and effective management practices. A number of the Catholic media organizations expressed a desire to form an association as a platform for more systematic collaboration. The Church Chronicle Foundation pledged to support all of these initiatives.
Media organizations represented at the meeting included: Artuma, Ateitis, Bažnyčios žinios, Bitutė, Tėvo Pijaus balsas, Mylėkite viens kitą, Laiškai bičiuliams, Magnificat, Magnificat vaikams, Naujasis židinys, Saleziečių žinios, XXI amžius, Žodis tarp mūsų, Katalikų pasaulio leidiniai, Katalikų interneto tarnyba, Kataliko balsas, Bernardinai.lt, Marijos radijas, Mažoji studija, Neliberaliai, and Pro Patria.
Participating members of the hierarchy were Vilnius Archbishop Gintaras Grušas, Kaunas Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevičius, Panevežys Bishop Lionginas Virbalas, and Kaunas Auxiliary Bishop Kęstutis Kėvalas.
